Boys in Bangalore, where football is regarded as a religion are encouraged to study as sports offer little hope as a career choice. But this did not dampen their enthusiasm to celebrate the greatest sporting event of the year — FIFA World Cup 2014. Gowthamapura boasts of more than 25 football teams, the oldest being Bangalore Mars FC. A statue of the legendary Brazilian footballer Pele in the main square showcases the passion that blazes in the hearts of the teams in Gowthamapura.
LITTLE BRAZIL CELEBRATES GLORY OF FOOT BALL
The area  dotted with  single room houses and narrow lanes at the heart of India’s IT capital, Bangalore is known as ‘Little Brazil’ because of its fervour for football. Boys wearing traditional yellow Brazilian jerseys, their  faces painted green and yellow danced their way on the streets of Bangalore announcing the beginning of the greatest showpiece event of the year.

Local MLA NA Harris celebrated and expressed his support for the road rally where thousands of Brazilian fans thronged the cars to take the procession all across Bangalore. With a giant football World Cup and a human size Pele cut-out besides him Harris gave his full heart support to the Samba boys.Â
