Mandi: NDMA VC throws Light on difficulties rescuers are facing

The heartrending incident in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi has left the entire region of the hill station as well as Hyderabad down south, in a state of shock. 24 students and one tour operator were washed away in Beas river when water was released into the river without warning from a nearby hydropower project.NNIS spoke to the Vice Chairman of NDMA MarriShashidhar Reddy who threw light on the some adverse conditions that the rescue operation teams have been facing over the past four days.

Reddy said that the river is full of rocks and the water level is also fluctuating depending on the release of water from the Larji dam which is one of the major problems during rescue work.

The divers are also unable to stay under water for longer period of time as the water is very cold and muddy due to muddy water the visibility of divers has become zero in water. Reddy said that 70 divers and around 600 rescue personnel are trying its best to recover the remaining bodies. 

 

 

Reddy further said that recovery work is going on in full swing and support from Navy, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle along with underwater video camera has also been taken.
