Shiv Kapur, the lone Indian at the US Open, got off to a credible start on the first nine of the opening round and ended the morning session with one birdie, one bogey and seven pars.

Kapur teed off from the tenth and had three pars before finding his first birdie. On the par-4 13th playing to 391 yards, Kapur drove with a three-iron and followed it up with an excellent second shot to land within six feet. He duly holed it for his first birdie.

After following that birdie with four more pars, he came to the ninth, where he missed the green in regulation. The golfer then paid with a bogey and turned in even par in tied 12th place.

This is Kapur’s first US Open; he is currently ranked 177th in the world rankings
