People in New Delhi Feel that Inflation is a major Challenge

Not only the Union Finance Minister of India, Arun Jaitley but even the people of the country admit that inflation is a major challenge. People we spoke to said that while there was hope good times will come there was a certain element of doubt and fear of how to cope with the pressures caused due to the rise in prices.

An NNIS BUDGET EXCLUSIVE

Arun Jaitley has said on Tuesday that inflation was a major challenge to the nation. He said that mindless populism needed to be checked. There is a hope that tough consolidation measures will be taken.

He said that inflation though slightly under control was still beyond the acceptable level. Noteworthy is the fact that Wholesale Price Inflation has hit a five month high of 6.01 per cent. Food price inflation is near double digits. With late monsoons the problems have trebled with high prices of vegetables and dairy products.

The government has also raised railway fares and fuel prices as crude oil prices have risen on international markets. Add to that the problem emanating from the Iraq crisis. While Narendra Modi has already said the bitter pill will have to be digested, Jaitley has underlined Indians would have to pay higher prices for better services, as added taxes will hurt. So what does the India living in New Delhi feel.
