Patna: A protest against the murder of a primary agriculture credit society (PACS) president turned violent Tuesday in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district when the house of a suspect was set ablaze, police said.
Garib Nath Das, the PACS president who was also a property dealer was killed over business rivalry near Rasulpur under Yahyapur police station,about 70 km from here.
As news of his killing spread, hundreds of people gathered and blocked the Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi road and some of them set ablaze house of a suspect in the murder, a district police officer said.
“Sensing trouble, district administration has deployed security forces and dispersed protesters,” the officer added.
Security forces have also been deployed near the suspect’s house.
The situation is tense but under control, the officer said.
