Zivame.com facilitates breast cancer screening for rural women

 
Bangalore: Taking a bold stand in the fight against breast cancer, online lingerie store Zivame.com has announced that it will get a 1,000 women from country’s rural areas screened for breast and cervical cancer.

Zivame.com has tied up with Bangalore-based NGO Milaap to take the initiative forward, and is also working with Gramalaya Microfin Foundation and Harshamitra Women Screening Wing to set up several medical camps across Trichy district.

The company is also raising awareness among general public about breast cancer through e-mailers and social media, said a statement.

“Breast cancer is a big health threat that women across the globe face. While women in urban centers are generally more aware of it, it is imperative to raise awareness about it amongst rural women,” said Richa Kar, founder and CEO, Zivame.com.

“October being the Breast Cancer awareness month, we wanted to go beyond just creating awareness to actual on ground action to ensure that women from rural areas benefit from our initiative. Therefore, we decided to put screening camps in Trichy and get a 1000 screened for breast and cervical cancer,” added Kar.

The online platform is also raising awareness about breast cancer through the tag — #Share2Care — social media channels like Twitter and Facebook, and is offering people an opportunity to play a part in getting several women tested.
