According to reports, the ‘Jihadi John’ masked fighter who has appeared in a series of Islamic State beheading videos, is Mohammed Emwazi, a Kuwaiti-born Briton from a prosperous family who grew up in London and graduated with a computer programming degree.

British government sources and the police have so far refused to confirm or deny the report, citing a live anti-terrorism investigation.

In videos released by Islamic State, the black-clad militant brandishing a knife and speaking with an English accent appears to have decapitated hostages including Americans, Britons and Syrians.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has ordered MI5, MI6, and GCHQ to track and capture Jihadi John. The U.S. Senate has approved a $10 million bounty for information leading to his capture.

On 26 February 2015, the BBC and The Washington Post identified Jihadi John as Mohammed Emwazi, a 27-year-old British man from a middle-class family who grew up in West London and graduated from the University of Westminster with a computer programming degree
