Can only 19 Candidates champion Women Empowerment in Delhi?

In Delhi elections one of the core issues being demanded is that of women empowerment, but surprising though it may seem only 19 women candidates have been fielded this election by all three major parties combined. This include BJP’s Chief Ministerial Candidate Kiran Bedi and Nupur Sharma, who would take on AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal. However, women leaders are actively taking part in the election campaigning.

Yesterday, the women’s wing of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organised a bike rally. This bike rally was organised in Krishna Nagar, the constituency from where the chief ministerial candidate of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Kiran Bedi, is contesting elections.

AAP supporters from across the country converged in the capital to take part in the rally. Bollywood actress and member of AAP from Chandigarh city, Gul Panag, led the rally riding her trademark Bullet bike, wearing a red jacket. Panag was accompanied by scores of women riding two-wheelers. AAP leader Shefali Mishra said that only Kejriwal could make empowerment of women in Delhi a reality.

AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal has said if his party comes to power in the national capital then women will have nothing to fear as the AAP government will ensure complete security for them. Kejriwal said the party will make such arrangements in Delhi that women feel safe and receive police help immediately if the need arises.

Delhi goes to polls on February 7 for the second time in 14 months after AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal pulled plugs on his government supported by Congress party barely 49 days into office last February.
