The number of cases in Swine Flu has gone up to alarmingly high levels in various states of the country.
States like Rajasthan, Andhra and Gujarat have witnessed several victims to it. In Rajasthan, Health minister Rajendra Rathore, said that situation was alarming as at least 58 swine flu deaths were reported in January alone.Rathore visited a hospital in Jaipur to see arrangements and facilities available for swine flu patients. Special wards and counters have been opened and a special team of doctors has been deputed in Jaipur to tackle swine flu cases.
Reportedly, out of 33 districts, 29 are afflicted with swine flu while Dholpur, Hanumangarh, Sirohi, and Baran were said to be safe.
Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. H1N1 symptoms are similar to those produced by other influenza viruses – fever, cough, sore throat, body aches and respiratory problems.
Earlier this week, Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria tested positive for swine flu and is recuperating in his residence. On Sunday evening, Gulab Chand Kataria complained of cold, cough, bad throat, fever. The next day he was tested for the H1N1 virus and by evening it was known that the test report was positive.
Meanwhile, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, who had tested positive for the H1N1 virus last weekend, is improving.

In Gujarat, as many as 23 persons have died in last 20 days due to Swine flu. Owing to severe cold this winter, swine flu cases in Gujarat intensified like never before.
Two swine flu deaths and 24 positive cases were reported from Andhra Pradesh, the state administration informed. Provincial Minister for Information and Public Relations (I& PR) Palle Raghunatha Reddy said that the government was monitoring the situation in port city Visakhapatnam.
He added that government had taken various steps to check the spread of the virus and awareness campaign for the swine flu were increased. The minister said a state-level cabinet meeting of medical officials and doctors was held at King George Hospital of Visakhapatnam. Steps like arrangement for isolation rooms, providing adequate medicines and other materials are being taken. Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus.
