Dwarka Mandi only sells vegetables grwon in fresh waters
As Dinesh and Amar explained, they have run an animation studio together since 2004. A few months ago, the friends were roaming around some farmland and fields when they noticed that the farmers were using sewer water to grow their vegetables. When Dinesh and Amar asked why they were using contaminated water to grow their crops, the farmers replied that they felt the sewer water made the vegetables grow faster.
Disturbed by what they had seen and heard, the two friends conducted further research, and learned that a place called Dwarka in New Delhi, India lets the waste from its 1.2 million residents pass through a few nearby villages. Because the sewer pipes are so large, the farmers decided to use the fecal water to irrigate their crops.
In order to provide people a place to buy vegetables online in Delhi from farmers who use fresh and clean water, Dinesh and Amar launched their Dwarka Mandi company and website. They sell only fresh water vegetables that are irrigated with tubewell water, and have sourced fresh veggies and fruits from chosen fields.
As Dinesh noted, they are currently getting in around 800 to 900 kgs of fruits and vegetables every day, and they are quickly selling out to the Dwarka community. In addition to offering people a safe place to buy vegetables online in Dwarka, the friends are doing what they can to motivate farmers to use fresh water instead of contaminated sewer water. They also hope to make the citizens of Dwarka aware of this troubling issue, and let them know that they have a reliable source to buy fruits online from Delhi farmers who use fresh water.
