According to reports, policemen last week visited Gandhi’s residence, and asked for details of the 44-year-old Congress leader’s appearance, like the colour of his eyes and hair.

Senior Congress leader PC Chacko on Saturday said that intruding into Rahul Gandhi’s privacy was completely unacceptable to the Congress Party. Congress leader PC Chacko on Sunday reiterated that the alleged intrusion into Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s personal life was a case of espionage and demanded an explanation from the Centre regarding the same.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi sought a reply from the Union Home Ministry on the issue.

The Congress party had earlier expressed its outrage over a Delhi Police team visiting the Congress vice-president’s office last week to make inquiry about his physical features. Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, however, ruled out any malafide intention behind the inquiry and added that the men in uniform did not initiate this step on the Central Government’s orders.

Meanwhile, the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party asked the party not to politicize a non-issue.

According to reports, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has extended his sabbatical and will now return only by the end of March. Rahul was expected to be in the national capital by Tuesday, March 10, but it was later revealed that he has extended his “leave of absence” till the end of this week.
