Earlier in the day, the state government has issued a flood warning following incessant rainfall resulting in rise in water level of Jhelum River. People have moved to higher reaches after water entered few homes in low lying areas of Kashmir.

Heavy rainfall has also caused waterlogging in the state and power supply is down in most parts of Srinagar. However, there has been a respite from rain from the past few hours.

Six to seven families have been trapped and their lives are at risk in flash flood-hit Chandak area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. Incessant rains, meanwhile, across the Jammu division have disrupted normal life. A portion of Jammu-Srinagar highway has been damaged following landslides due to which the vehicular traffic has been stopped as a precautionary measure.

Security personnel launched a rescue operation in Jammu and Kashmir after the water level in River Poonch rose due to incessant rainfall. The valley has been receiving heavy rainfall since Saturday, leading to landslides which damaged more than 40 structures, including residential houses, bringing back the dreadful memory of last year’s devastating floods which killed more than 300 people in the valley.

Police and army launched a joint rescue operation in Kalai village in Poonch district during which at least 30 people were rescued. Meanwhile, village head Mohammad Sharif said that flood like situation has risen. The rainfall has once again forced the closure of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Many low-lying areas of Srinagar have been flooded.
