Thousands gather outside a Bangkok temple to get in touch with their spiritual side, and pay respects to ‘magic’ tattoo master, Luang Phor Pern.
A possesed Devotee
The Buddhist monk passed away in 2002 at age 79, but his following is more alive than ever, and his tattoos are said to cast a trance on believers.
LUANG PHOR PERN FOLLOWER, CHARTCHAI PHURAHONG SAYS:
“I wear 17 Hanuman tattoos..They are very powerful. It is very hot in my body.”
Several become ‘possessed’ by the spirits of the animal tattoos on their bodies.
“It doesn’t matter how many tattoo scripts you put on the body. But if your mind doesn’t connect to the gods, then the gods won’t possess you.”
The tattooing practice is done in the traditional method using a long spear and ink made of herbs.. and even cigarette ash.
