French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve was on hand for the opening.

“I wanted at this time when this store courageously reopens to be next to the representatives of the Jewish community and those who own this shop, to show that life is stronger, to say that we are standing and that we will continue to live freely in our country in which brotherhood, respect, and values of freedom will always be stronger than all forms of violence.”, he said.

Many of the customers are still traumatized by what happened — but defiant

“I was here when the attack happened. I was about to drive away and Coulibaly (the main suspect for the shooting) was just in front of me. When I got back home 45 minutes later I switched on the TV and when I saw what was happening I thought “it can’t be true”, I had been there only 45 minutes before. That’s why I came back today, it was important that they reopen.”, one customer said.

“Today is very symbolic, and it’s a way to convey the message to those who did that or those who would like to do similar things that they won’t win, they won’t win and we will always get back on our feet.”, another customer said.

The shop has been completely refurbished and is currently operated by a new staff, as many working that day are still on sick leave
