Texas: Republican Senator from Texas Ted Cruz will announce his 2016 presidential bid on Monday. That’s according to one of his aides, speaking to Reuters on Sunday.
It would make Cruz the first Republican candidate to officially declare a run for the 2016 presidential race.
Cruz — a favorite of the conservative Tea Party — is slated to speak Monday at Virginia’s Liberty University.
A Cruz staff member told the Daily Beast website, “You’re going to want to be there.”
Last week, Cruz said in an interview that he had been getting “very encouraging” support to run for president.
Other potential Republican candidates include Florida’s former Governor Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.
