Puri: The Funeral of former Odisha Chief Minister Janaki Ballabh Patnaik, would be held today evening at Puri. His body will be brought to Bhubaneswar this afternoon and his last rites will be performed in Puri.
He passed away in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, early on Tuesday morning aged 89. His death has been condoled by entire political fraternity including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Patnaik was in Tirupati to attend the convocation ceremony of the Rashtriya Sanskrit University. Last night, he was admitted to hospital after complaints of chest pain and passed away in early morning today.
Patnaik was born on January 3, 1927. He had been the Governor of Assam between 2009 and 2014. He was Chief Minister of Odisha from 1980 to 1989 and again from 1995 to 1999, holding that post for the longest time on record before Naveen Patnaik.
Janki Ballabh Patnaik was the grand old man of Orissa politics. Three time chief minister, Assam Governor, Union Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, the veteran Congressman remained an inherent part of Indian polity throughout his life
