Bangkok: Thailand’s bomb disposal experts are on the ground in Koh Samui, where officials say a truck bomb detonated Friday night. Investigators spent the night and morning collecting evidence. A police chief says the bomb was planted in a pick-up truck.
Thai Police Chief Somyot Pumpanmuang says “The car that was used in this incident is the car that was stolen from Yaha District of Yala province. This is only our initial finding, whereas further details will be available later after the investigation.”
The bomb at the Central Festival Samui shopping mall parking garage injured seven people, all of whom have been discharged from the hospital.
No one has claimed responsibility for the incident.
The military government though is battling both a Muslim insurgency in the south and dissatisfaction with its rule.
