Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress on Saturday exuded confidence saying that people would vote in favour of them during the Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls.
Over 37 lakh people voted today to elect councillors to 144 seats in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. 90 other municipalities across West Bengal go to polls next week.
West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee also cast her vote. Earlier in the day, electorates queued up to cast their votes to elect members of the local bodies in West Bengal that has been beset with violence during campaigning.
Large number of voters, mostly women, turned up at polling booths to exercise their right for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Elections to 91 other municipal bodies in the state are scheduled for April 25.
