Mumbai: Miss World Rolene Strauss arrives in India on April 14 on a 4 Day Long Tour. She was accompanied by Miss UK Carina Tyrrell, and Miss World Chairman Julia Morley.
According to a statement by Miss World Organization, Rolene will be travelling to the town of Shirpur as well as visiting several locations in Mumbai. She would also speak to students at the Narsee Monji Institute of Management Studies.
According to sources, the visit by Miss World is primarily for Shirpur, which has undergone radical transformation and is a model for development.
Shirpur is a small hamlet about 400 kilometres from Mumbai. The village demonstrates one of the world’s best examples of social upliftment of rural lives by empowerment. It houses a mega textiles hub that provides employment to about 10,000 locals, a well-equipped hospital, over 2000 check dams to provide uninterrupted water supply to the town dwellers, Ashram school to provide free food, shelter and education to tribal children and a giant world-class educational campus to seek students from all over the world. All these success stories attracted these world icons to this town.
Chintan Patel, one of the architects in shaping today’s Shirpur and the Director of Deesan Textiles and the trustee of SVKM said, “We all are delighted to welcome Ms Julia Morley and Miss World 2014 Rolene Strauss to Shirpur who took keen interest in knowing the story of Shirpur. Their visit is the recognition of the model that Shirpur sets forth, which talks about holistic societal developmentâ€.
After spending two days in Shirpur, they will return to Mumbai on 16th April. In Mumbai, they will share their experiences of ‘Shirpur’ in the Press Conference scheduled in Mumbai on Thursday, April 16, 2015. They will also attend a cultural programme at Bhaidas Hall and interact with students of NMIMS at its new Campus in Juhu.
