The two were arrested while they were marching towards Narbal where a youngster was killed on Saturday morning.

Malik is also on a 30-hour long hunger strike in protest against the proposed separate township for Kashmiri Pandits in the valley. A row has erupted over the government’s plan to create such “composite townships” in the Kashmir valley. The government’s move has been met with strong opposition from several parties and separatists in the state.

The youngster succumbed to his injuries after the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel fired at protesters in Narbal.

The Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani had called for a strike following the arrest of separatist leader Masarat Alam.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh on Saturday said that there is no space for violence and rebellion and that the J&K Government is taking actions.

Singh’s statement came after separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani called for a complete shutdown in the valley to protest against the death of a youth in an encounter with Army in Tral.

Masarat Alam, who was arrested over raising of pro-Pakistan slogans and hoisting Pakistan flags at a rally, has been remanded to 7-day police custody.

Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, Chief of Jamaat Ud Dawah (JuD), an Islamist charity linked to outlawed militant group Lashkar-E-Taiba (LeT), flayed the Indian government for the arrest of Masarat Alam Bhat.
