Bangalore: AIADMK MPs were in tears on Monday after a special bench of the Karnataka High Court acquitted former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case.

Meanwhile, Lawyers celebrated and expressed happiness over the acquittal of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister outside Karnataka High Court in Bengaluru.
Jayalalithaa’s Lawyer B Kumar on Monday said that cases against the politician couldn’t be proved and that the prosecution case stand dismissed. He said that all the accused including Jayalalithaa are acquitted in the disproportionate assets case. Kumar further maintained that there is no impediment anymore for Jayalalithaa to assume her position as the CM of Tamil Nadu. The 67-year-old was found not guilty in a nearly two-decades-old case of corruption by the Karnataka High Court today.

The special high court bench headed by Justice CR Kumaraswamy pronounced the judgment.
Jayalalithaa was last year sentenced to four years in jail in connection with the Rs. 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case. The court had also imposed a hefty fine of Rs. 100 crores on her.
