Darjeeling hit by cyclone, heavy damages to houses, Power Lines and Trees

Darjeeling, May 24 (ANI): A freak cyclone caused widespread damages in Darjeeling town. However, no casualties were reported.

The storm blew up roofs of several houses and uprooted trees. Most of the areas in the tea-garden town in West Bengal state plunged into darkness as several electricity poles were also uprooted. Villagers said the wind accompanied by heavy rain disrupted power supplies and telecommunications services, and also damaged infrastructure.

The freak cyclone also affected road links in the hills. Neighbouring areas of Bhushibhita, Nayan Jot and others were also affected.

The district administration has rushed its officials to the affected villages to assess the damages.
