Kozhikode: A 39-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries on Friday (May 15) but not before giving life to five persons by donating her organs. Anita, who was hit by a motorcycle on her way back home from a ration shop on Monday (May 11), died at Malabar Institute of Medical Science (MIMS) early Friday in Kozhikode city of Kerala.
Anita, who was first taken to a nearest hospital, was moved to Kozhikode Medical College but as her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to MIMS the same day. Her husband and family members signed the papers making her eligible to donate her organs after she was declared dead.
One of her kidneys was transplanted to a patient at Kozhikode Medical College. Her second kidney and liver were donated to patients at MIMS.
Both her eyes were donated to the eye bank of the medical college, a press release from MIMS said. Liver transplant surgeon, of MIMS, called upon people to come forward to donate their organs.
A brother of an organ recipient expressed his gratitude to Anita. Anita is survived by her husband and two daughters.
