NDA Government to pass Land Acquisition Bill through Joint Committee of Parliament

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that he hoped to pass the controversial land Bill through a 30-member joint committee of both the lower House (Lok Sabha) and the upper House of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).

A 30-member joint committee will be set up to look into the Bill and will be headed by BJP leader SS Ahluwalia. The committee will have 20 members from Lok Sabha and 10 members from Rajya Sabha.

The committee would submit its report on the first day of the Monsoon Session in Lok Sabha. The BJP has apprehensions over its passage in Rajya Sabha, where it is in minority. Opposition parties are persistently objecting to the land Bill, dubbing the legislation as ‘anti-farmer’.

However Jaitley said the Bill was in favour of farmers and rural areas. Talking about the goods and services tax (GST) Bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha last week, Jaitley said it was to uplift India.
