Imphal: Over a hundred power lifters from eastern states of the country including West Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, participated at the Eastern India Power lifting Championship in Imphal.
The three day-long event was organized by the Manipur Power lifting Association under the aegis of Indian Power lifting Federation with an aim to promote the sport among the youth.
Power lifting is fast gaining popularity in the Northeast. Manipur scored a total of 60 points to clinch the overall women’s power lifting title while Assam lifted the men’s overall team title.
Having a large pool of sporting talent, Northeast is fast becoming a hub of regional and national sports event. Be it football, taekwondo, volleyball or power lifting – the holding of big sports event in the Northeast will help the local sportspersons to hone their skills and experience the gain from their opponents.
