Gaya, May 21 (ANI): Temperatures soared in eastern India to over 41 degrees on Thursday forcing people to stay indoors. According to weather forecasts, the temperature is likely to hit the cap of 44 degrees this week, before it gets down.
With blistering heat wave sweeping the holy town of Gaya in Bihar, people took refuge under shade and gulped down water to keep themselves cool. The heat wave has badly affected students and daily wage earners.
While some cover their faces while travelling, others make use of umbrellas. Sugarcane juice and other local drinks like Sattu are the preferred options by locals to beat the heat. The boiling temperature has not only affected the general populace, but even the animals are feeling the heat.
India has long-suffered deadly heat waves. Periods of extreme temperatures have led to thousands of deaths since the 1990s, largely in rural areas where basic infrastructure is poor.
