Texas Terrorist Attack dominates headlines in US this week

Washington: The sound of gunfire captured on video during a controversial art-show echoes past attacks against images depicting the Prophet Mohammad.

Police say two gunmen opened fire outside the exhibit in Garland, Texas last Sunday shooting a security guard.

The gunmen – later identified as Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi – were then killed by police officers in the parking lot.

About 200 people attended the exhibit organized by an anti-Islamic group.

In South Carolina, authorities are investigating the shooting of a black man by a white sheriff’s deputy who was responding to a home invasion call at the victim’s residence.

Bryant Heyward called 911 Thursday to report two men with guns trying to break into his Charleston-area home his mother owns.

Authorities say upon arrival Deputy Keith Tyner ordered Heyward to drop his gun, then shot him in the neck after he failed to do so.

Heyward remains in critical but stable condition.

In Hattiesburg, Mississippi, a man and woman are under arrest, charged with murder after allegedly shooting two officers overnight.

Authorities say Marvin Banks and Joanie Calloway opened fire on the officers Saturday during a routine traffic stop.

Police also arrested Banks’ brother Curtis and charged him with accessory after the fact of capital murder.

The incidents in South Carolina and in Mississippi are another reminder of the dangers of police work and come as law enforcement faces heavy criticism over the use of lethal force, especially against minority groups.
