It will taken years if not decades to rebuild Nepal’s Heritage which got destroyed after the devastating earthquake last month. Many of Nepal’s famous world heritage sites have been damaged by the massive quake. The chief of the Archaeology Department of Nepal puts the number at 200. Restoration work is already underway but he says it’s going to take millions of dollars and years to complete.
Bhavesh Narayan Dahal, Director General of Nepal’s Department of Archaology says “I think, I promise you, five to seven years, it takes time. You can rebuild again because this is necessary, this is our pride, we will rebuild it. These are the gifts of our ancestors, we have to rebuild it because this heritage helps us in the tourism industry.”
In Patan where there’s also heavy damage people prayed before statues in the historic Durbar Square.
Some are still critical of the Nepal government’s response to the earthquake aftermath. “It will take time, I think so, 10 years, not less than 10 years. The government of Nepal is not taking too much interest”, said a Nepali person.
Nepal’s been offered international help with the reconstruction of its heritage sites.
Government data shows an annual 800, 000 foreign tourists visit Nepal every year and its monuments and temples are a big draw.
