Bihar Bandh on July 11 against Death of Student due to Police Brutality

Patna: A State wide Shutdown (Bihar Bandh) has been called on July 11, by Rashtriya Janadhikar Party led by Pappu Yadav against the Police Brutality and Murder of a Student Shyam Narayan (alias Siku Bharadwaj) while appearing for Recruitment in Border Security Force (BSF).

Siku passed away on Wednesday morning at private Hospital near SP Verma Road in Patna, due to fatal injuries received during the torture inflicted by State Police and BSF.

Siku had participated in the Recruitment Rally of BSF on July 1 at Kishanganj. During the process he had some dispute with the BSF Officials after which he was arrested and handed over to Kishanganj Police. It is not clearly known who was responsible for the dispute.

As the news of his death spread, members of various student organizations started protesting across the State. There were curfew like situation in many parts of Patna. After post-mortem, his body was handed over to Kishanganj Police.

Many leaders including former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and Pappu Yadav took part in his funeral. Pappu Yadav also handed over a sum of Rs. 1 Lakh to the parents of Siku.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that he has formed a special team comprising senior IAS and IPS Officers to investigate the death of Siku Bharadwaj.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also ordered BSF Director General to investigate the incident. Senior BJP Leader Sushil Kumar Modi said that he personally requested Rajnath Singh to order a probe into the incident.

Bihar Human Rights Commission has taken a suo moto action in this case and has issued a notice to Kishanganj Police Superintendent ordering him to submit a report describing the whole incident.
