Bihar to provide Free Electricity Connection to 60 Lakh APL Families

Patna: Bihar Government would provide free electricity connection to both Below Poverty Line(BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL) Families. Earlier, it was provided only to BPL families, but now it would be exended to all. This would benefit nearly 50-60 lakh APL families. The State Government would reimburse the Power Companies with Rs. 3000 per family for providing Free Electricity Connection.

In addition to this, all Villages in Bihar would be electrified by November 2016.  This was announced in a review meeting of power officials with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Energy Minitser Vijender PRasad Yadav. In meeting, it was declared that 1209 villages are yet to be electrified in the state and the target to electrify them would be achieved by November next year.

Some 348 Villages, where Grid Connection is not feasible, would be electrified using Off-Grid Solutions and Generator Backups. The CM set a deadline of November 2017 for such villages.

Power Companies are also mooting the idea of prepaid meters for farmers. The proposal is currently pending with Bihar State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
