Man from Bihar to be awarded prestigious Baden Powell Award by President of India

Darbhanga: President of India Pranab Mukherjee would present Aswini Kumar Jha with prestigious Lord Baden Powell National Award on February 22, 2016. Aswini hails from Benipur, Darbhanga and is presently posted as 2I/C in Rapid Action Force (RAF) 106 battalion at Jamshedpur. The award is being given away by The Scouts and Guides organization of India on the occasion of World Scouts Day (February 22).

Apart from Jha, other noted recipients of the award include cricketer Saurav Ganguly, playback singer Alka Yagnik, actor Ayushman Khurana and musician Javed Akhtar. In total 14 people would be presented with this award.

An alumnus of Ramkrishna Mission Vidyapith Purulia, Ashwini Jha joined Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) in 2001 as Asst. Commandant. Since then, he has been posted at various locations including Naxal hit Chhatisgarh. His service towards common people in Chhatisgarh was widely appreciated. Presently, he serves as Second in Command 106 RAF at Sundernagar Jamshedpur.

The Baden Powell National Award was instituted in 2007 with an objective to promote brotherhood. The scouts and guides have been selecting yearly for the award, those people whose contribution have uplifted the society. The recipients of the awards are chosen from diverse backgrounds.
