7th chilli festival held in Manipur

Manipur, Aug 26 (ANI): The seventh edition of Hathei Phanit, a chilli festival, started in Manipur’s Ukhrul District on Thursday. Varieties of chillies and chilly products were on display at the event titled ‘The 7th Sararakhong Hathei Phanit (Chilli Festival) cum Farmers and Scientist Interaction.’ Sararakhong is a village that produces about 5,000 kilograms of dried chilli annually. At least 400 households of the village are involved in the occupation. A number of self-help groups, chilli farmers and other entrepreneurs took part in the fair. The three-day event organised by the Sararakhong Hathei Promotion Committee was sponsored by Manipur’s Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department, District administration, Ukhrul District Community Resource Management Society (UDCRMS) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). During the fair, a training programme was also organised.
