Malkangiri (Odisha), Sep 30 (ANI): Panic has gripped several villages in Odisha’s Malkangiri district after 21 infants died and over 50 have been affected in the last 17 days due to Japanese encephalitis. While most of the infants suspected to be suffering from the disease have been undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital, a few villagers, owing to their superstitious beliefs, have turned to ‘tantriks,’ after medicine failed to cure their children. Nearly five deaths have been reported in the last 48 hours. The worst affected areas include Kalimela, Pandripani and Korkunda. The symptoms of Japanese Encephalitis include fever, nausea and fatigue.
