Bihar Govt chalks out strategy to ease Traffic Congestion across the State

Patna: In an attempt to mitigate the problem of Traffic Congestion in the state Bihar Government has announced a series of measures which include construction of new Highways, broadening of existing State highways and several other initiatives.

In a meeting chaired by Chief Minister, the state Cabinet made several important decisions on Friday evening. The Government is planning to setup High Speed Corridors across the state which would comprise a Star Grid of National highways, State Highways and Major District Roads.

All the State Highways shall have a minimum of two lanes (at least 7 meters wide). All major district roads shall have a minimum width of 5.5 meters.

In the urban areas, the roads shall have a minimum width of 8.5 meters. The Cabinet also formed an 8 member panel to speed up the implementation of Road Development Vision 2020 formulated by the State Government earlier. It would be chaired by Principal Secretary of Road Construction Department. The Government aims to limit the travelling time from any part of state to Patna to less than 5 hours.
