Champaran 100th Anniversary: Bihar Govt to felicitate 3000 Freedom Fighters

Patna: In an unprecedented event, Bihar Government would felicitate close to 3000 Freedom Fighters from all corners of the country. The event would be organized tomorrow (April 17) at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna and would be presided by President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. Other notable attendees include Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

As per reports, 264 Freedom Fighters from outside Bihar and 2708 freedom fighters from Bihar are to be felicitated during the day long ceremony known as All India Freedom Fighters Festival organized by Human Resource Department of Bihar Government. The program would begin at 12:30PM at SK Memorial Hall in Patna. It is being organized as part of 100th Anniversary of Champaran Satyagraha Movement organized by Mahatma Gandhi in 1917. It was the first movement of Gandhi in India and it laid the foundation of Independence Struggle led of him.

The Freedom Fighters include 68 from Telangana, 35 from Tamil Nadu, 34 from Uttar Pradesh, 24 from Maharashtra, 18 from Karnataka and 16 each from Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. As part of event, each Freedom Fighter would be given a Jute Bag, a Shawl with Mithila Painting engraved on it, a memento, Gandhi Cap and Stickers.

Freedom Fighters from all corners of country have been assembling at Patna since Saturday and more are likely to come today. 15 Freedom Fighters would be presented the Felicitation kit by President of India on stage, while 813 would be given the kit at their seats. Remaining 2154 Freedom Fighters would be given the Felicitation kits in their respective districts by District Magistrates.
