Buddhists’ holy Bodhi tree in good health, says temple authorities

Gaya (Bihar), Apr 19 (ANI): Buddhists’ holy Bodhi tree, under which Lord Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment, was sprouting new leaves, said a temple official. The Bodhi tree, a much-revered figure in the premises of the Mahabodhi Temple in eastern Gaya city, is regarded as sacred by Buddhists across the world. Secretary of Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC), N Dorjee confirmed that news leaves were appearing on the tree. The tree is said to be the direct descendent of the one Buddha sat under for three days and nights in the sixth century BC, before attaining enlightenment.
