Man arrested allegedly for selling 11-month-old son to purchase mobile phone

Bhadrak (Odisha), Sep 13 (ANI): In yet another inhumane incident reported from Bhadrak, a man named Mukhi allegedly sold off his 11-month-old child to buy a phone. According to police, the man sold his son in exchange of Rs. 25,000. He spent Rs 2,000 on the mobile phone, Rs 1,500 on a silver anklet for his seven year-old daughter, bought a saree for wife and spent the rest on alcohol. Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Anup Sahoo said Mukhi has no regular income. He works as a sweeper. Mukhi’s brother-in-law Balia and an anganwadi worker were also involved in the crime. The three got an opportunity to make money when they met a couple in their sixties. The anganwadi worker, who knew a couple in their sixties, contacted Mukhi and struck a deal between them. Child’s mother told that her drunk husband abused the child and said he doesn’t want to keep him. When she objected, he thrashed her and sold off the child. Police succeeded in recovering the child and is investigating the accused couple.
