Chhath devotees hold candlelight vigil after NGT prohibits construction of artificial bridges

Siliguri (W.B.), Oct 13 (ANI): Locals held a candle light protest in Siliguri on late Thursday evening over the Kolkata National Green Tribunal’s recent verdict, which prohibits construction of artificial bridges and ghats on the banks of Mahananda River during Chhath pooja. A huge number of devotees from different caste and communities took part in the protest march on of a ghat of Mahananda River, the main lifeline of Siliguri. According to the devotees, Chhath Puja is marked on the banks of Mahananda every year and they make artificial necessary arrangements for ladies. But the verdict will create difficulty making these arrangements this year. Protesting against the decision, the devotees are demanding NGT to roll back its decision.
