Siliguri (West Bengal), Oct 24 (ANI): The tea garden owners in Siliguri wear a tense look as a steep dive in prices has left them in a state of crisis. The tea garden owners in the city are bearing the brunt of this sudden downfall, who account for 30 percent of the tea producers in the North Bengal region. The Deputy Director, Tea Development (Plantation), Tea Board of India, R. Kujur, said the processing plants were not able to handle the huge supply of tea crop and this has led to decline in the quality of unused tea leaves, which has led to fall in their prices. He added that since the Hindu festival of Durga Puja took place in September this year as opposed to October usually, there were no labourers available to pluck the tea leaves, which led to their overgrowth, resulting in the degradation of quality.
