Heavy smog engulfs Chennai after ‘Bhogi’ day

Chennai, Jan 13 (ANI): Heavy smog covered Chennai and the air quality went down after residents burnt old items as per custom early in the morning on ‘Bhogi’ day, first day of the four-day Pongal festival. Several Chennaiites woke up to smoke wafting through their windows and doors. Due to the heavy smog, 12 arriving flights were diverted and nearly 30 departing flights were delayed in view of smoke due to ‘Bhogi’ festival. The air quality of Chennai shows prominent pollutants in ‘poor’ category.
