Buddha Nullah’s water turns black causing threat to health

Ludhiana (Punjab), May 24 (ANI): Lately Buddha Nullah in Ludhiana has been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. The water of this stream has turned black due to industrial and chemical waste which is drained untreated into the nullah. This is being seen as the primary cause of several deaths that have been reported in surrounding villages in the past four years majorly due to hepatitis, E coli, and other related diseases. Commissioner of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Jaskiran Singh complained that, “The pollution control board is working on installing four Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP) in the area. Only one has been made till now, and even that has not become operational yet.” The Buddha Nullah is also seen as the reason behind growing cases of cancer in the region because it carries industry wastes into directly into river Sutlej.
