Heavy Rainfall stalls Amarnath Yatra

Srinagar, Baltal (J&K), Jun 28 (ANI): The annual Amarnath Yatra was put on hold on Thursday morning due to heavy rains. The yatra has been stopped on both the base camps Pahalgam and Baltal in Jammu and Kashmir. Rain continues since yesterday evening. Yesterday early morning amid tight security, the first batch of Amarnath pilgrims, who started from Jammu, reached the twin base camps at Baltal and Pahalgam. Over a hundred thousand devotees visit the shrine every year as a part of the pilgrimage which commences in the last week of June every year and concludes in early August. The yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 26 coinciding with the ‘Raksha Bandhan’ festival. Security arrangements around the base camps, temples, railway stations, bus stands and other crowded places here have been strengthened.
