Women Commission visits Khunti in gang-rape case

Khunti (Jharkhand), Jun 23 (ANI): In connection with the gang-rape incident of five NGO workers, members of National Commission for Women and Jharkhand Women Commission reached Khunti to take cognizance of the case. They took stock of the situation from officials of the area. The NCW had formed a three-member team to visit Khunti. Kalyani Sharan, Chairperson, Jharkhand Women Commission said, “If the women were going for a good cause they should have alerted the administration about it. Then it is the responsibility of the administration to provide them security. But it is not only the administration which is responsible to prevent such incidents but the whole society should move forward for this.” Five women who are associated with an NGO were allegedly gang-raped on gunpoint in Jharkhand’s Khunti. At the time of the incident they were performing a street play to spread awareness.
