Amritsar library begins digital archiving of holy Sikh scriptures

Amritsar (Punjab), Jul 26: With an aim to promote research in history of Sikhs and their culture and preserving their sacred texts, a Sikh committee in India’s northern Amritsar city has begun digital archiving of Holy Scriptures. Located in the premises of the Golden temple, the holiest shrine of Sikhs, the Sikh Reference Library uses modern technology and a system called optimzer to preserve the books. A fumigation chamber is also there in the library to preserve the books. Established in 1946, the Sikh Reference Library has around 22,000 books on Sikh literature, history, philosophy and various other fields with most of the books in native language of Punjab (Punjabi).
