Himachal Pradesh bans disposable thermocol cutlery

Shimla (HP), Jul 08 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Government announced a complete ban on the usage of disposable single-use thermocol cutlery on Sunday, which will be effective after three months. The ban will extend to the use of thermocol (Polystyrene) cutlery, including cups, plates, glasses and spoons or any other item in the state. The notification also included a provision for imposing hefty fines on that selling and even using thermocol cutlery, extending up ranging from 500 rupees to 25,000 rupees depending on the gravity of the offence. This imposition comes just over a month after the state government had announced ban on the use of plastic bottles at public functions and government offices. Himachal Pradesh was also the first state in country to ban use of plastic bags in 2009. The state government has been making efforts to reduce plastic waste in the state.
