Groundnut adulteration case: GUJCOT manager, NAFED officials among 19 others detained

Rajkot (Gujarat), Aug 05 (ANI): 22 people were arrested, including Magan Zalavadiya, the warehousing manager of Gujarat State Co-Operative Cotton Federation Limited (GUJCOT), for allegedly adulterating groundnuts procured from farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP). Some officials of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) were also arrested. The GUJCOT manager allegedly conspired with cooperative society of Junagadh to carry out the adulteration. Around 20 per cent to 30 per cent of the groundnuts were found to have mixed with soil & stones. Ranchhodbhai Chanabhai Faldu, the state Minister of Agriculture said, “The government detained 22 people named in the groundnut scam and if such a case appears in the coming days, the government is ready to take strict actions against the corrupt.” The case came into light on July 30 when traders who had purchased the groundnut found it to be adulterated.
