Jalpaiguri (West Bengal), Aug 26 (ANI): Women of a self-help group based in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal on Sunday celebrated Raksha Bandhan with six pet elephants to underline the message of human-animal bond. The celebration was aimed at reducing the man-animal conflict and encouraging protection of animals. The women tied rakhis on the trunk of six elephants and offered them food. Forest officials and others were present at the celebration. A member Umida Minjh said, “We treated elephants as our big brother and tied rakhi to them. We want to create awareness among the common people that they are part of our nature.” Ayan Chakraborty, Ranger, Gorumara South Forest Range said, “Forest department and a self help group jointly celebrated rakhi with pet elephants and our motto is to aware common people about the man-animal conflict.”
