Landslide damages century-old railway track in West Bengal

Kurseong (West Bengal), Aug 02 (ANI): A landslide triggered by heavy rains in West Bengal, covered and damaged over a century old narrow gauge railway track, on Thursday. The loose boulders toppled down a hill and obstructed the national highway as well as the rail route that connects the plains with Darjeeling hills. The incident happened in Kurseong, 32 kilometres (20 miles) away from the popular hill station of Darjeeling. The railway operations in the area will remain suspended till the line is cleared and rebuilt, said a local resident. Annual monsoon season is vital for India as half of its cropland lacks irrigation.
