Agartala (Tripura), Aug 10 (ANI): Hundreds of Left farmer union supporters courted arrest in Tripura after a ‘civil disobedience’ agitation held at eleven places against the Centre. The protests were over the alleged attack on peasants and workers across the country. Protestors complained that for four years, under the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi there have been more than 40,000 farmer suicide cases throughout the nation as they do not get the actual price of their produces and workers are not getting the salary. The agitation is being organised in 450 districts in the country. The agitating leaders alleged that for the past five months in Tripura the lives and livelihoods of common people are at stake as there is no minimum number of jobs for the poor people under MGNREGA and there is no democracy also under the new BJP-IPFT government. They urge the BJP government to restore peace and a democratic environment in Tripura. Police used water cannon and tear gas to disperse the agitators. Police officials alleged that the gathering did not have permission and so it was rightfully stopped and dispersed by using water cannon and tear gas.
