MEA briefs on progress of BIMSTEC Summit

New Delhi, Aug 24 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday briefed media on the progress of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) over the past two years ahead of its fourth summit. Preeti Saran, Secretary in MEA said, “The first disaster management exercise was held in India, first meeting of tour operators and the first task force in traditional medicine was also held. We launched the first telemedicine network. A centre for weather and climate was established in Noida.” Fourth summit of BIMSTEC will be held on August 30 and 31 in Kathmandu of Nepal. The fourth summit of the BIMSTEC which is being held in Nepal for the first time since its formation in 1997 will see the heads of states from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand along with Nepal.
